The Fund's objectives are to accelerate progress in quantum science and engineering in the Divisions of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy (PMA), Engineering and Applied Science (EAS), and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (CCE) and may support postdoctoral and graduate fellowships in the area of quantum science, provide seed-funding for quantum research to help stimulate novel approaches to basic science, and fund collaborations or conferences in the field of quantum science.
About Roy T. Eddleman
Quantum science holds significant promises for humanity. To realize its fullest potential, we need to provide adequate support to young scientists who want to pursue careers in the field.
Roy T. Eddleman (1940-2022) was the founder and retired chairman of the board and CEO of Spectrum, Inc. Spectrum is a diversified filtration company with a differentiated portfolio of hollow fiber cartridges, bench-top to commercial scale filtration and perfusion systems and an expansive portfolio of single-use solutions.
Originally from North Carolina, Mr. Eddleman became enamored with the commercial and entrepreneurial side of chemistry when he worked as an analytical chemist at CalBiochem in Los Angeles. Mr. Eddleman left CalBiochem to found Spectrum Laboratories which was acquired by Repligen Corporation in 2017.
His lifelong commitment to philanthropy and science education continued with the founding of the Eddleman Quantum Fund and Eddleman Endowed Fellowship at Caltech, the Eddleman Quantum Institute with an Eddleman Endowed Fellowship at the University of California Irvine, and the Eddleman Center for Quantum Innovation at the University of California Santa Barbara.
